9 best Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtracks

One of the best parts of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, apart from the amazing special effects and sticking to the storyline of its prequel and Marvel comics facts was Peter Quill’s (played by Chris Pratt) amazing mixtape. Director James Gunn gave a rather creative spin to the whole story by adding pop culture references to it and making Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks the best.

Here is a list of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 soundtrack and the story behind how they made it to the list:

Mr. Blue Sky – Electric light orchestra

James Gunn believed that if Guardians of the Galaxy were ever a band, it would surely sound like ELO. The song had the vibe that perfectly fitted the flow of the story and the characters. They had a rather tough time gaining the rights to the song.

Fox on the run – Sweet

An interesting fact about this track is that it was a trailer-only song and does not appear in the movie. It sure was a perfect fit, as the story of the movie revolved around Starlord, Gamora, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Groot as one dysfunctional team that was on a mission given to them by a powerful alien race, The Sovereign.

The Chain – Fleetwood Mac

The Chain is one of the songs that was deeply embedded into the fibers of the film according to the director James Gunn. They were a perfect example of the pop culture reference that was prevalent back in the 70’s.

My Sweet Lord – George Harrison

One of the most favorite picks in the mixtape of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 soundtracks was “My Sweet Lord.” The song had a little to do with the parallel storyline of Peter Quill’s parentage, as he figures out that his real father was an alien that was played by Kurt Russell in the movie but was an actual planet (called Ego) according to the comics.

Brandy you are a fine girl – Looking Glass

This is James Gunn’s personal favorite as he adored this song which was a smash hit in 1970’s. It plays an emotional role in the movie and appears in the very first scene.

Wham Bang Shang- A- Lang – Silver

The first installment of the franchise Guardians of the Galaxy paved the way for adding pop references to its second installment. The seventies pop song sounded like a modern band doing a retro version of a new song which made it the director’s favorite.

Father and son – Yusuf / Cat Stevens

The song was added to the movie to complement Peter Quill’s feelings about a father that he never knew he add all this while.

Flashlight – Parliament

This song is exclusively added for baby Groot as he danced his way through the song. One of the funkiest Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 soundtrack you will ever come across in the mixtape.

Guardians Inferno – The Sneepers featuring David Hasselhoff

It was a comical spin-off that was Guardians of the Galaxy’s take on Meko’s Star Wars. They roped in David Hasselhoff for vocals because he was Peter Quill’s childhood hero.
