Kevin Spacey has given more than thirty years to the movie industry. He is known for his legendary roles in movies like Se7en, The Usual Suspects, and most popularly American Beauty. He is now extremely popular for his character Frank Underwood in the TV show House of Cards. Here are five things you may not know about Kevin Spacey:
Spacey was his middle name
Kevin Spacey Flower was his name when he was born. However, when he registered his name with Screen Actors Guild and Actor’s Equity Association, the name Kevin Flower was already taken on file. So, the actor decided to drop his last name and simply go with his middle name and first. His middle name also happens to be his mother’s maiden name as well.
Troublemaker is an understatement
Referring to Kevin Spacey as a ‘troublemaker’ in childhood would probably be an understatement. He had once allegedly burned down the tree house that belonged to his sister. After that incident, Kevin Spacey’s parents send him to Northridge Military Academy to get him disciplined and to correct his behavior. However, he didn’t manage to stay properly there as well. After hitting a classmate with a tire, he was expelled from the academy.
Dark roles are his thing
Kevin Spacey is known for his dark characters. He portrays dark roles extremely well. He also won an Academy Award for his role of Robert “Verbal” Kint in the 1995 movie, The Usual Suspects. Also, the film is considered as an all-time classic. Then, of course, his recent character as the ruthless politician Frank Underwood is the TV show House of Cards is commendable. Also, Kevin Spacey has won two Academy Awards. One he won as the Best Actor for American Beauty and the other as the Best Supporting Actor for the movie The Usual Suspects.
Secretive and private
Kevin Spacey unlike other celebrities who can’t wait to talk about their lives is quite secretive about his personal life. He keeps his private life and work separately and prefers not to mix them both. According to him, the less you know about him, the easier it will be for you to perceive him as the character that he is on screen. There are various kinds of assumptions and allegations about his private life as well. This is because many people believe he is hiding something since he loves being private.
Mumma’s boy
The only woman who has always stayed by his side throughout his careers and all the ups and downs is his mother. Kevin Spacey has taken his mother as his date to several events and award ceremonies as well. When he won the best actor in a supporting role for The Usual Suspects, his mother was present with him. Also, in his acceptance speech, he added that no matter what people say about bringing his mother to award shows, he will always keep bringing her. He also added this is because he loves his mother and he is proud of her.
