5 fashion shows that you must follow

In one of the most memorable scenes in the movie The Devil Wears Prada, Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly explains, albeit disparagingly, to her assistant how fashion has a trickle-down effect that what is worn in the ramps of popular fashion weeks ultimately finds its way to the streets. Although most people tend to look at fashion, fashion weeks, and trends with disdain. It is true that more than half the ensembles seen during fashion shows barely have any utility or are hardly functional. However, as Miranda Priestly explains, some aspects of these fashion weeks do affect the patterns, colors, and styles of clothes that are available in retail stores. Here are a few of the most popular fashion shows around the world that have a significant impact on how we dress up:

  • Paris Fashion Week

    The Paris Fashion Week showcases the crème de la crème of the fashion world. This bi-annual fashion show is held in February-March and September-October. The events are held twice to showcase Spring-Summer and Autumn-Winter collections of each year. Held in the fashion capital of the world, the Paris Fashion Week has some of the top fashion houses displaying the best of fashion. Popular names include Paul Smith, Louis Vuitton, Dior Hommes, Comme des Garcons, Homme Plus, and so on. With popular fashion houses on the ramp, the audience at this fashion show also has some of the well-known fashion connoisseurs.

  • Milan Fashion Week

    Along with Paris, Milan is considered as one of the top four fashion capitals of the world. Milan Fashion Week is held twice every year; the Spring Summer collection is showcased in February-March, and the Autumn Winter Collection is showcased in September-October. Some of the best names in fashion such as Roberto Cavalli, Prada, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabanna participate in this fashion show. Started in 1958, this illustrious fashion week in Milan also sees some of the best rising stars making their debut on the ramp.

  • London Fashion Week

    Started in 1984 by the British Fashion Council, the London Fashion Week has become one of the most glamorous events of the fashion world. It is held twice every year: February and September. The event showcases the upcoming trends of the season. With the best of fashion world participating in this fashion show, the audience includes the illustrious names and experts in fashion.

  • New York Fashion Week

    The New York Fashion Week was one of the first fashion weeks of its kind to be held anywhere in the world. Listed among the big four fashion shows, the New York Fashion Week was started in 1943 to showcase the best of American fashion to the world. This is a bi-annual event held in February and September to display the best of the season’s fashion trends. This fashion week showcases the creativity of some of the leading fashion houses and designers.

  • Tokyo Fashion Week

    The Tokyo Fashion Week is one of the most prestigious fashion shows in Asia. Although it entered late in the game, the Tokyo Fashion Week is slowly climbing the popularity charts among fashionistas and fashion connoisseurs. True to everything that is Japanese, the Tokyo Fashion Week showcases some of the most elegant and unusual fashion trends.
